He also cited another post that referenced both Lagat and Nairobi Area Commander Joseph Chirchir, linking them to an investigation involving high-value property.
“Specifically, the post claimed that Eliud Lagat had positioned trusted officers at critical points such as DCI desks, Occurrence Books (OBs), and traffic shifts,” Kanja said.
He added that the post included a photograph of Lagat along with language he described as offensive. Kanja said the content raised public concern and prompted an investigation under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

“The IG informed the nation that Ojwang’ hit his head on a wall. The country needs to know where he got that information. And now that the autopsy has contradicted that claim, what has the CS done?” Migori Senator Eddy Oketch had earlier asked during the session.
Kanja said that Deputy IG of Police Lagat filed a formal complaint after the post was published, which led the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to assign a cybercrime officer to investigate. The post was shared through an X account with 13,400 followers.
Ojwang later died in police custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi, a case that has drawn national attention and public calls for accountability.
Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) also informed the Senate that preliminary investigations into the death of Ojwang show that the CCVT camera at Central Police Station was interfered with.
IPOA further revealed preliminary report has ruled out suicide as the cause of Ojwang's death.
